Steven Andrew Miller, lyric baritone and choral music teacher, received a Bachelor of Arts in Music concentrated in vocal performance from Roanoke College and a Masters of Music in Music Education from Boston University.
As the former director of choral activities and musical theatre at North Cross School, some of his directing credits include: Guys and Dolls Jr., Honk Jr., The Music Man Jr., Aladdin Jr., Oliver, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Oklahoma, and Aida School Edition. Currently, he is the choral teacher at Hidden Valley Middle School and Hidden Valley High School in the Roanoke County Public School district. His choral students have developed a natural sense for the stage while performing difficult choral literature, which include: Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and works by Bob Chilcott, Rene Clausen, Aaron Copland, Laura Farnell, Dan Forrest, Ola Gjeilo, Knut Nystedt, Robert Shaw, and Eric Whitacre, just to name a few.
He is not a stranger to the stage, and as a youth, his musical theatre credits include: Rolf Gruber in The Sound of Music, Cain and Japheth in Children of Eden, and Ugly in Honk. As a former member of the Young Artist Apprentice Program for the Opera Roanoke he has also performed in Madama Butterfly, Il Trovatore, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and The Flying Dutchman. Currently, he is the bass section leader for the St. John’s Episcopal Church Choir.
Miller is originally from Manassas, Virginia but now resides in Roanoke, Virginia with his wife, Kristin, and two sons, Landon and Greyson.
